Avengers: Doomsday: Why Eternals May Not Appear
Actress Lauren Ridloff, who portrayed the role of Makkari in Eternals, recently shared her thoughts on whether the team will reunite in Avengers: Doomsday. Eternals, directed by Chloe Zhao, was released in theaters on November 5, 2021. The Marvel movie featured Richard Madden, Gemma Chan, Ridloff, Angelina Jolie, Kumail Nanjiani, and Salma Hayek, among many others.
Lauren Ridloff says Eternals’ return in Avengers: Doomsday is ‘not likely’
Lauren Ridloff recently attended the SXSW for the documentary Marlee Matlin: Not Alone Anymore and spoke to The Direct regarding Eternals’ potential return in Avengers: Doomsday.
She was asked if Eternals has a chance of appearing in the star-studded Doomsday. The actress appeared doubtful and conveyed in sign language, “Not likely. I don’t know, my magic eight ball is telling me ‘Not likely.'”
The cast of Avengers: Doomsday was announced recently in a live stream by Marvel Studios, in which none of the actors from Eternals were announced, thus creating uncertainty around the future of the team in the MCU.
Ridloff’s statement about a possible return is different from what she said in November 2022. While speaking to Insider at the time, Ridloff was asked if her character would appear in the future. To this, she replied, ”Well, I hope so. I would think so, but who knows? We are all waiting”
In July 2024, Inverse spoke to Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige and asked whether there are any plans for an Eternals sequel. He said, “There are no immediate plans for Eternals 2.” Feige referred to the Tiamut island shown in the Captain America: Brave New World trailer at the time and asserted there are plans for the future.
He added, “I think you’ve seen maybe in a trailer we’ve released recently, an acknowledgement of some of those events. Certain giant things came out of the ocean.”
