I Am Legend 2: Will Smith on if Michael B. Jordan Is His Son in the Movie

Will Smith recently shared some details regarding the plot of his upcoming movie, I Am Legend 2, as well as Michael B. Jordan’s character. Directed by Francis Lawrence, it is the sequel to the 2007 post-apocalyptic flick I Am Legend, which featured Smith in the lead role. The sequel was greenlit by Warner Bros Pictures in 2022, with the Creed star also joining the cast.

I am Legend 2’s Will Smith confirms Michael B. Jordan is not his son in sequel

The Hancock actor recently appeared on a podcast, in which he opened up about a key plot detail of I Am Legend 2 and Michael B. Jordan’s role in the movie.

Since Jordan joined the cast of I Am Legend 2, there have been speculations that he might play the role of Will Smith’s character, Dr. Robert Neville’s son. Furthermore, fans wondered if he would be joining as the Darkseekers’ leader or as Smith’s younger version. However, these rumors have now been debunked by Smith.

The actor revealed on the Revolt’s Drink Champs podcast, “Michael B. Jordan’s character currently is the head of a new settlement… He’s not my son… So there’s a settlement in Connecticut.”

Additionally, Will Smith shared that the movie is based on the alternate ending of I Am Legend and does not follow the theatrical ending. He stated, “What we were gonna do was the prequel, so we were gonna do the prequel. … And [Akiva Goldsman] was like, but wait, what if we make a new version from the alternate ending, where your character is still alive and you know.”

The theatrical ending of the movie, inspired by Richard Matheson’s novel, showcases Smith’s character, Dr. Robert Neville, dying. However, in the alternate ending, which was released on DVD, he survives.

While expressing his excitement about working with Will Smith, Michael B. Jordan told People in June 2024, “I’m really excited to get in front of the camera with him. To be able to work with Will is something I’m really looking forward to.”
