Avengers: Doomsday’s Shang-Chi Actor Says the Cast Is Mind-Blowing

With Simu Liu set to reprise his role of Shang-Chi in the much-awaited Avengers: Doomsday, the Kim’s Convenience star has come out to share his thoughts on the film’s cast. Liu is returning to the part after a five-year hiatus, having last donned the mantle of the heroic martial artist in 2021’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.

The character will now make his second MCU appearance in Avengers 5, as confirmed by Marvel Studios’ recent cast reveal. In the build-up to the project, the actor has expressed delight over the quality of co-stars he’ll be working with on the project.

Shang-Chi’s Simu Liu reacts to Avengers: Doomsday’s cast announcement

During his recent appearance on The Jennifer Hudson Show, Simu Liu remarked that he is stoked to share the screen with Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart in 2026’s Avengers: Doomsday.

Liu stated, “I saw when Sir Ian [McKellen] and Sir Patrick [Stewart] were announced, these are like two of the greatest actors to ever walk the face of the Earth, and that kind of blew my mind a little bit.”

“We are so excited to get back to work,” he continued. While Liu divulged no information regarding the plot details of Avengers: Doomsday, the Shang-Chi star noted that he “knew that I was going to be involved in it in some capacity, but I didn’t know who else they were announcing.” He then explained his decision to maintain secrecy by jokingly taking a punt at Tom Holland and Mark Ruffalo for their accidental leaks in the past.

Aside from Liu, Ian McKellen, and Patrick Stewart, Avengers: Doomsday also features the likes of Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Sebastian Stan, and Tom Hiddleston, among others, with more stars expected to join the cast soon. Helmed by Joe and Anthony Russo, the film hits the big screen on May 1, 2026.
