New Friday Movie With Ice Cube Gets Title, Exciting Update
A new Friday movie is in the works at New Line Cinema.
Released in 1995, Friday is a buddy comedy movie directed by F. Gary Gray (Straight Outta Compton) that stars Ice Cube and Chris Tucker. It was followed by two sequels: 2000’s Next Friday and 2002’s Friday After Next, as well as a Friday: The Animated Series that aired in summer 2007.
What is the update on the new Friday movie?
Per The Hollywood Reporter, New Line Cinema CCO Richard Brener confirmed that Ice Cube is currently working on another Friday movie.
“We are making another Friday,” he said. “We just closed a deal with Ice Cube to write and star. It’s going to be called Last Friday.”
A fourth Friday movie has been in the works for several years; however, it’s seemingly been stuck in development hell for quite some time. Mike Epps seemingly confirmed the project was finally moving forward in a recent episode of The Breakfast Club, saying, “[Ice Cube] called me the other day, [and said] we just finished the deal. So we’re doing the Last Friday, man. And big shout out to Cube, man. That’s another brother that has put so many brothers on, man. This dude, put so — and don’t really get the props for it, you know? He put me, Chris Tucker, Bernie Mac. I mean, name ‘em. This dude gave dudes opportunities.
“…I haven’t seen the script, but I’m pretty sure it’s good. And we’re going to bring in the new comics. We’re going to put the D.C. Young Flys and all of them in with the OGs.”
No other information about Last Friday, including the cast, release date, or production window, is available at this time.
Friday, Next Friday, and Friday After Next, meanwhile, are all currently available to stream on Max.
