Bill Murray Gets Emotional Sharing Touching Bruce Willis Story
Bill Murray recently got a bit emotional while recalling a story about his Moonrise Kingdom co-star Bruce Willis, and how the pair initially met.
What story did Bill Murray tell about Bruce Willis?
During a recent appearance on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen, Murray called Willis — who recently celebrated his 70th birthday — a “good f—ing guy,” and said that he initially met the Die Hard actor when Willis was a page (assistant) for Saturday Night Live in the 1970s.
“Bruce Willis was a page at NBC when I was on Saturday Night Live,” Murray said. “This sounds like insane s***, his job was to come and go to the dressing rooms and refill the M&Ms and pretzels in the actors’ rooms.”
Murray went on to note that, years later, when Willis was already an established star in Hollywood, the pair would run into each other again, and Willis would thank him and fellow SNL alum Gilda Radner for being nice to him during his time as a page.
“I remember when I met him after he was already a successful guy, he said, ‘You and Gilda [Radner] were nice to me,’” said Murray. “I always thought ‘OK, I’m good with this guy.’ He was a good guy.”
Many years after their initial meeting, Murray and Willis would go on to work together on Wes Anderson’s 2012 coming-of-age comedy-drama Moonrise Kingdom.
In 2022, Willis announced that he would step away from the world of acting after being diagnosed with aphasia, a language disorder that affects the ability to communicate. In a 2023 update, Willis’ daughter Rumer announced that his diagnosis had progressed into frontotemporal dementia.
