Thunderbolts* Removes Taskmaster From Scene in Ad as MCU Death Rumors Swirl

A key Thunderbolts* character who is rumored to die has seemingly been removed from a scene in a new video.

Thunderbolts* releases in United States theaters this coming May. Directed by Jake Schreier, the ensemble cast of the MCU movie includes Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes, David Harbour as Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian, Wyatt Russell as John Walker/U.S. Agent, Olga Kurylenko as Antonia Dreykov/Taskmaster, Hannah John-Kamen as Ava Starr/Ghost, and Lewis Pullman as Bob/Sentry.

Who has been removed from a scene in the new Thunderbolts* video?

Marvel Studios recently released a short new teaser video for Thunderbolts* that, as noticed by the X account Cosmic Marvel, Taskmaster seemingly no longer appears in a scene that she was featured in during one of the earlier trailers.

While it’s possible that these are either two different scenes or frames, it’s more likely that the shot with Taskmaster is a bullshot; meaning, it was released with the character’s inclusion but won’t be in the movie’s final cut. This has not been officially confirmed by Marvel, meaning fans will have to wait to see the finished film to know for sure.

There have been, however, a number of rumors suggesting that Taskmaster won’t be making it out alive of Thunderbolts* given how little the character has been in any of the promotional material.

The Avengers: Doomsday cast announcement earlier this week then fanned the flame of these rumors, as Pugh, Stan, Harbour, Russell, Pullman, and Pierce will all appear in the 2026 movie while Kurylenko’s name was noticeably missing.

The cast of Thunderbolts* also includes Geraldine Viswanathan, Wendell Edward Pierce, Chris Bauer, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus. The plot revolves around Louis-Dreyfus’ Valentina forcefully recruiting Bucky, Alexei, Yelena, Ghost, Taskmaster, and U.S. Agent for a dangerous mission.

Thunderbolts* will be released in United States theaters on May 2, 2025.
