Benedict Cumberbatch-Led The Roses Has Release Date Set for 2025

Benedict Cumberbatch‘s upcoming film The Roses has finally received an official release date. The movie, which draws inspiration from Warren Adler’s 1981 novel The War of the Roses and the 1989 film adaptation of the same name, places Cumberbatch in the leading role of Theo alongside Olivia Colman’s Ivy.

A recent press briefing has confirmed the release date for The Roses to be August 29, 2025.

Helmed by Jay Roach, the movie will follow the journey of a seemingly ideal couple, Theo and Ivy. The couple appears to have achieved everything in life, with both characters boasting thriving careers to go with their marriage and children. However, things take a turn for the worse when Theo’s professional life hits an unexpected roadblock. At the same time, Ivy experiences a rise in her career, causing a sense of competition to grow between the pair while a number of suppressed emotions resurface at the same time.

The Roses will feature an impressive supporting cast alongside Benedict Cumberbatch and Olivia Colman. Andy Samberg, Kate McKinnon, Ncuti Gatwa, Jamie Demetriou, Allison Janney, Zoë Chao, and Belinda Bromilow will play significant roles in the film. The new movie is written by screenwriter Tony McNamara, and Jay Roach, Michelle Graham, Ed Sinclair, Adam Ackland, Leah Clarke, and Tom Carver serve as the film’s producers, as per Variety.

Roach’s upcoming adaptation marks the second time that Adler’s acclaimed novel has been adapted for the big screen. The first adaptation of Adler’s work came out in 1989, directed by Danny DeVito, who also stars. Featuring Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner in the leading roles, the movie was a success and was nominated for one BAFTA and three Golden Globes.

While announcing the new movie, the president of Searchlight Pictures, Matthew Greenfield, stated, “The Roses’ is a wildly funny, bigger than life, and yet deeply human story. With Jay at the helm, and Benedict and Olivia and Tony, we have a dream team bringing it to life.”
