
Succession Creator’s HBO Movie With Steve Carell Casts Monsters Star & 6 More
Seven actors have joined the cast of Succession creator Jesse Armstrong’s new HBO movie.
Armstrong is working on a new, still untitled movie for HBO that is about “a rolling international crisis.” The previously announced cast includes Steve Carell, Jason Schwartzman, Cory Michael Smith, and Ramy Youssef.

Per Deadline, Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story’s Amie MacKenzie has been cast in the movie as a character named Janine.
Also joining the cast are Hadley Robinson (Anyone but You) as Hester, Andy Daly (Lessons in Chemistry) as Casper, Ali Kinkade (Yellowstone) as Berry, Daniel Oreskes (A Real Pain) as Dr. Phipps, David Thompson (It’s What’s Inside) as Leo, and Ava Kostia (The Stairwell) as Paula.
The “movie follows a group of billionaire friends who get together against the backdrop of a rolling international crisis,” according to Deadline’s description of the story. Further plot details beyond that remain under wraps at this time.
Armstrong wrote the script for the movie and also serves as an executive producer alongside Frank Rich, Lucy Prebble, Jon Brown, Tony Roche, Will Tracy, Mark Mylod, and Jill Footlick.
This will mark Armstrong’s first time directing a feature film; although, he has helmed a couple of short films in the past and has also written movies such as 2009’s In the Loop, 2010’s Four Lions, 2019’s The Day Shall Come, and 2022’s Downhill.
In television, Armstrong is best known for creating HBO’s Succession, which premiered in 2018 and won him numerous Emmy Awards and other accolades during its critically-acclaimed four-season run. He additionally created a handful of British series, such as Peep Show, The Old Guys, Fresh Meat, and Babylon.
A release date for Armstrong’s HBO movie has not yet been announced.
