Lizzo Shows Off Weight Loss Transformation, Teases New Movie Role

Lizzo recently took to social media to show off her weight loss transformation as well as briefly touch on a big movie announcement.

In a recent post on Instagram, Lizzo shared a series of selfies as part of a “photo dump” of images. Amongst them were various selfies of the hit singer that showed off the weight loss journey that she has been on.

The star has been open about her weight loss over the past year, when she announced in a TikTok video in 2024 that she was planning to work on her diet and lifestyle. Since then, she’s shown off videos of her working out and has given consistent updates on her weight loss.

What did Lizzo say about her new movie role?

Lizzo also briefly teased some other big news, with the music star recently being reported to have been cast in the upcoming Rosetta Tharpe biopic. While Lizzo didn’t dive too much into the news, she did share it on Instagram, along with a caption celebrating the news that reads “Black people made rock n roll yeaaaah.”

According to initial report’s of the film, the movie Rosetta “will capture a pivotal period in Tharpe’s life — one of groundbreaking innovation, defiant passion, and secret love. As she shatters musical boundaries with her signature guitar sound, she must navigate societal constraints, conceal her love for another woman, and ultimately transform a wedding into one of the most legendary concerts in history — the first stadium show.”

Tharpe, who gained popularity in the 1930s and 1940s, influenced a number of popular musicians including the likes of Little Richard, Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley, Tina Turner, and more. Some of her best songs include “Strange Things Happening Every Day,” “Jericho,” “Didn’t It Rain,” “This Train,” and “Precious Memories,” among others. 

In addition to starring in a lead role, Lizzo is also attached to produce the biopic alongside Kevin Beisler, Nina Yang Bongiovi, and Forest Whitaker, with Natalie Chaidez (The Flight Attendant) and Kwynn Perry (The Burned Photo) writing the screenplay.
