SZA Reveals What X-Men Character She Wants to Play in MCU

SZA knows which MCU character she’d ideally like to be cast as.

Solána Imani Rowe, better known as SZA, is a professional rapper and performer who recently made her feature film debut in 2025’s One of Them Days. She starred alongside Keke Palmer in that buddy comedy movie, which was directed by Lawrence Lamont.

Now, SZA is hoping she might get a chance to join the X-Men.

Which X-Men character does SZA want to play in the MCU?

Appearing on The Jennifer Hudson Show, via Deadline, SZA said that she “would love to be a superhero.” She said that Silver Surfer is one of her favorite characters, though she’s not interested in playing him because the character “is a dude.”

Rather, SZA said she was interested in playing the X-Men’s Ororo Munroe, better known as Storm.

“She comes from this whole other place where it’s the jungle,” she said. “So, I think that would be so gnarly if I could be Storm origin story…I love to bring the range.”

Created by Len Wein and Dave Cockrum, Storm first debuted in Marvel Comics in 1975’s Giant-Size X-Men #1. She is an Omega-level mutant with the power to control the weather, among other abilities, who has been instrumental in countless X-Men and Marvel stories over the decades. Halle Berry played Storm in 2000’s X-Men, 2003’s X2, 2006’s X-Men: The Last Stand, and 2014’s X-Men: Days of Future Past, while Alexandra Shipp then portrayed a younger version of the character in 2016’s X-Men: Apocalypse. Shipp’s Storm then briefly reappeared in 2018’s Deadpool 2 and 2019’s Dark Phoenix.

No actor has been officially cast as Storm by Marvel Studios at this time, and it’s unclear when the character will make her MCU debut. It is worth noting that Julia Garner is playing a female version of Silver Surfer in Marvel’s The Fantastic Four: First Steps, which releases this coming July.
