Maika Monroe to Star in Neon Horror Movie Brides

Maika Monroe is continuing her run throughout the horror genre. She’ll re-team with Neon and filmmaker Chloe Okuno on the film Brides.

Neon announced on Wednesday that it had acquired the North American rights to the film, which will see both Monroe and Okuno team up yet again. Monroe previously starred in Okuno’s 2022 psychological thriller Watcher, which was Okuno’s feature directorial debut.

What do we know about Brides?

Brides is currently in pre-production now, and set to begin filming in March 2025, with a theatrical release planned from Neon. The film will follow the story of Sally Bishop (Monroe), a woman who travels to a remote Italian villa with her husband and encounters the villa’s owner, a mysterious count, who “takes a peculiar interest in Sally.”

Other casting information for the film is unknown as of now. The film will be written by Okuno as well, with Anthony Bregman and Stefanie Azpiazu producing the project through their banner Likely Story.

Monroe and Neon are also no strangers to working together, with Monroe having just starred in Osgood Perkins’ Longlegs, which was a massive hit for Neon. It went on to become the highest-grossing independent film of the year after earning $75 million domestically at the box office.

Besides the upcoming Brides, Monroe will also star in the upcoming fantasy film 100 Nights of Hero from Julia Jackman, as well as In Cold Light and a remake of The Hand That Rocks the Cradle.
