Superman Teaser Trailer Release Date Revealed for James Gunn Movie

Superman, helmed by James Gunn and featuring David Corenswet as the Man of Steel, comes out in US theaters on July 11, 2025. It remains one of the most highly anticipated movies of next year, with the buzz around it growing daily. And now, the official release date and time of the first trailer for Superman have been revealed, along with a possible appearance by Krypto the Superdog.

Superman teaser trailer coming out this week

The release date of the Superman teaser trailer is Thursday, December 19, 2024. James Gunn, the movie’s director and co-head of the DC Universe, took to social media and announced the news.

On X (previously Twitter), Gunn shared brief footage of the DCU Superman logo. He wrote in the caption, “Superman #trailer Thursday.” The news was announced also through the Superman movie’s official X page. There, it was further revealed that the trailer would come out at 6:00 p.m. PST.

Check out the video shared by Gunn below:

Superman is slated to be the first feature in DC Universe. Interestingly, an animated version of the DCU’s Superman has already appeared in the teaser trailer for the upcoming episodes of Creature Commandos at the end of its two-episode premiere.

The trailer depicts a bleak future in which Superman will be placed on a cross. Moreover, the viewers could see Starfire and what appears to be Mr. Terrific in the frame. Both have been impaled on sticks and put on either side of the cross that bears Superman. In the distance, the viewers can also spot other individuals who have suffered a similar fate.

Notably, industry scooper Matt Belloni of Puck News, claimed in a recent newsletter that Superman would not be the star of the first trailer of James Gunn’s upcoming movie. Instead, that honor will belong to a dog, presumably referring to Krypto.

James Gunn has made Superman from his own script. Besides David Corenswet, the movie stars Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, and more.
