Chris Rock’s Another Round Remake Finds Its Writer

Appian Way Productions has enlisted an award-winning scribe to adapt the long-in-development Another Round remake. It will be based on 2020’s Oscar-winning Danish movie of the same name, which was led by Mads Mikkelsen.

“The original film centers around four friends, all teachers at various stages of middle age, who are stuck in a rut,” reads the synopsis. “Unable to share their passions either at school or at home, they embark on an audacious experiment from an obscure philosopher: to see if a constant level of alcohol in their blood will help them find greater freedom and happiness. At first, they each find a new-found zest, but as the gang pushes their experiment further, issues that have been simmering for years come to a head, and the men are faced with a choice: reckon with their behavior or continue on the same course.”

Who is writing Chris Rock’s Another Round remake?

According to Deadline, Pulitzer Prize winner David Auburn (Proof, The Lake House) has signed on to write a new draft of Appian Way’s Another Round remake, which will be directed by comedian and actor Chris Rock (I Think I Love My Wife). Oscar winner Leonardo DiCaprio was previously rumored to star in the project due to his involvement as a producer. However, it’s still currently unclear if DiCaprio is indeed joining the cast.

In 2021, Appian Way, Endeavor Content, and Brad Weston’s Makeready won the rights to the English remake in a bidding war against Studiocanal with The Picture Company, Jake Gyllenhaal’s Nine Stories, and Elizabeth Banks with Universal Pictures. The English remake will be produced by Weston for Makeready, Jennifer Davisson, and DiCaprio for Appian Way, with Thomas Vinterberg, Sisse Graum Jorgensen, and Kasper Dissing serving as executive producers.

The original Danish movie was directed by Thomas Vinterberg from a script he co-wrote with Tobias Lindholm. On top of winning an Oscar for Best International Feature Film, Vinterberg was also nominated for Best Director at the 93rd Academy Awards in 2020. The cast also included Thomas Bo Larsen, Lars Ranthe, and Magnus Millang.
