Amanda Seyfried, Lewis Pullman, & 9 More to Star in Ann Lee Musical From The Brutalist Writer

Amanda Seyfried plays the title role in the musical movie Ann Lee, which has been kept a secret until today. The upcoming feature has already wrapped production, which was directed by The Brutalist co-writer Mona Fastvold.

The Brutalist team has been quietly working on the historical film, with Fastvold attached in the project as the director, co-screenwriter, and producer. Fastvold co-wrote the feature with The Brutalist director and co-writer Brady Corbet. On the other hand, the Golden Globe-nominated movie’s composer Daniel Blumberg wrote and produced the original music for Ann Lee. 

Who else is in the Ann Lee cast? 

Deadline broke the news that the team behind The Brutalist has been working on the project with Seyfried — known for her roles in Mamma Mia!, Mean Girls, Les Misérables, The Dropout, and more — attached in the lead role. Ann Lee marks Seyfried’s return to musical, following 2018’s Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again. 

The forthcoming musical feature also boasts a stellar cast of Thomasin McKenzie (Last Night in Soho), Lewis Pullman (Lessons in Chemistry), Christopher Abbott (Sanctuary), Tim Blake Nelson (The Ballad of Buster Scruggs), Stacy Martin (Treat Me Like Fire), Matthew Beard (Moonflower Murders), Scott Handy (Macbeth), Viola Prettejohn (Generation Z), David Cale (Light from Light), and Jamie Bogyo (Industry).

Per the outlet’s description, the upcoming film — inspired by real events — will center on Shaker Movement founding leader Ann Lee, “who was proclaimed by her followers as the female Christ and went on to build one of the largest utopian societies in American history.”

It is produced by Andrew Morrison, Joshua Horsfield, Viktoria Petranyi, Fastvold, Corbet, Mark Lampert, Gregory Jankilevitsch, Klaudia Smieja-Rostworowska, and Lillian LaSalle. Executive producers are Zelene Fowler, Michael Fowler, Kyle Stroud, Claude Amadeo, Randal Sandler, Michael D’Alto, Chris Triana, and Adam Paulsen.

No release date has been set yet for Ann Lee.
