Pokémon & Aardman Announce Collab for ‘Special Project’
The Pokémon Company and multi-award-winning independent studio Aardman have announced that the pair are collaborating for a special project in the coming years.
What is the Pokémon and Aardman collaboration?
The companies announced the move on Tuesday, and didn’t go into too much detail on what fans can expect. The only real bit of news is that it was dubbed as a “special project” and would be coming to audiences sometime in 2027. The Pokémon Company also promised that the collaboration would see “Aardman bringing their unique style of storytelling to the Pokémon universe in brand-new adventures.”
“This is a dream partnership for Pokémon. Aardman are masters of their craft, and we have been blown away by their talent and creativity,” said Taito Okiura, VP of Marketing and Media at The Pokémon Company. “What we have been working on together ensures our global Pokémon fans are in for a treat!”
Aardman Animations is an animation studio based out of Bristol, England, that’s famously known for their work in stop motion and clay animation techniques, as well as their work in the Wallace & Gromit franchise. The company’s most recent work, Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl, is set to release on Netflix on January 3, 2025.
“It’s a huge honor to be working with The Pokémon Company International — we feel sincerely privileged to be trusted with bringing their characters and world to life in a brand-new way,” Sean Clarke, Managing Director of Aardman, said. “Bringing together Pokémon, the world’s biggest entertainment brand, together with our love of craft, character and comedic storytelling feels incredibly exciting. Aardman and TPCi share an emphasis on heritage and attention to detail as well as putting our fans and audiences at the heart of what we do, which we know will steer us right as we together create charming, original and new stories for audiences around the world”
