Ridley Scott Says Paul Mescal has Been Cast in Sam Mendes’ Beatles Movies
After becoming a champion in the arena, Paul Mescal is about to play a member of the Beatles, according to Ridley Scott.
On Tuesday night, Scott and Christopher Nolan spoke at the Directors Guild of America in Los Angeles following a special screening of Gladiator II. During the conversation, Nolan mentioned Scott’s next project, The Dog Stars, which is expected to reunite the Gladiator director with Mescal. Scott initially confirmed Mescal’s involvement in The Dog Stars before changing his answer. However, Scott quickly changed his answer, saying Mescal might have to drop out of the project to work on the Sam Mendes‘ Beatles movies.
“Maybe,” Scott told Nolan (via The Hollywood Reporter) when asked about Mescal participating in The Dog Stars. “Paul is actually stacked up, doing the Beatles next. So I may have to let him go.”
Who will Paul Mescal play in Sam Mendes’ Beatles movies?
Mescal has long been the rumored choice to play Paul McCartney. Other actors rumored to play the other members include Harris Dickinson as John Lennon and Joseph Quinn as George Harrison. Last month, Ringo Starr revealed that Barry Keoghan was taking drum lessons to play him in the biopics.
In February 2024, Mendes and Sony Pictures Entertainment announced plans to make four Beatles’ films. Each film will follow a different member of the band’s point of view. Mendes plans to direct all four movies. No writers have officially been announced for the movies.
This marks the first time the Beatles and Apple Corps Ltd. have granted the full rights to their life story and music catalogue. Mendes will produce alongside Neal Street Productions partner Pippa Harris and Neal Street’s Julie Pastor. Jeff Jones will executive produce for Apple Corps Ltd.
Filming is expected to begin in 2025 in the UK. All four movies are projected to release in 2027.
