Jennifer Love Hewitt starred in the original I Know What You Did Last Summer, and recently opened up about her status for the planned next entry in the series.
What did Jennifer Love Hewitt say about the I Know What You Did Last Summer reboot?
Speaking to ComingSoon in a recent interview, Hewitt was asked about the planned reboot of the series, which recently began production. Hewitt revealed that she actually hadn’t signed onto the project yet, but that they were “close,” and she’s excited to get back into the role of Julie James.
“So, the interesting thing is I’m not officially signed on yet, but we’re close,” said Hewitt. “We’ve been trying to figure out a lot with the 9-1-1 schedule. It’s been a little tricky. But the idea of returning to Julie James is really exciting for me. It’s scary. I think on the personal level of being like, ‘what are people gonna think of the 45-year-old version of Julie James?’ I think ’cause I’m a woman and human, that part of it makes me a little nervous. But playing her again would be an honor. I think I feel excited to show or see what she’s been up to and how she has changed, and what she still holds onto from that infamous night on the road.”
Hewitt also thanked fans for keeping the horror movie as popular as it was, and recounted how her children just recently watched the movie. She said it was a “wild” experience to see the movie now.
“It’s so crazy. Yeah. The movie just turned 27, so did I. I’m only 27 – that’s what I call myself now,” said Hewitt. “Yeah, it’s great. My kids just watched it for the first time and that was wild. My big kids sitting with them and their friends watching a movie and seeing myself at 18 and looking just like my daughter, which is crazy. They loved it. I loved that fan base. I love that people still root for that movie. It was a big moment for me in my life. It was my first time really starring in a movie I was 18. It just has a special place in my heart for sure.”
Set to arrive in theaters on July 18, 2025, I Know What You Did Last Summer 3 is being directed by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson from a screenplay she co-wrote with Sam Lansky, Jeff Howard, and Leah McKendrick. It is produced by Neal Moritz. At the moment, further details about the plot are still being kept under wraps.
They will be joined by franchise newcomers Jonah Hauer-King (The Little Mermaid, The Tattooist of Auschwitz), Madelyn Cline (Outer Banks, Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery), Chase Sui Wonders (Bodies Bodies Bodies, City on Fire), Sarah Pidgeon (Lazareth, Tiny Beautiful Things), Tyriq Withers (The Game), Lola Tung (The Summer I Turned Pretty), Austin Nichols (The Day After Tomorrow, John From Cincinnati), Nicholas Alexander Chavez (Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story), and musician/model Gabbriette.
After over two decades since last starring in 1998’s I Still Know What You Did Last Summer, Freddie Prinze Jr. and Jennifer Love Hewitt have signed on to reprise their respective roles as Rayn Bronson and Julie James.
