It Ends With Us’ Justin Baldoni Details ‘Near Breakdown’ While Filming
Justin Baldoni not only directed It Ends With Us but also starred in the film, a task that caused the star to nearly have a breakdown on set.
Speaking during an appearance on How to Fail With Elizabeth Day (via The Hollywood Reporter), Baldoni recalled a specific scene where his character, Ryle Kincaid, found Atlas’ (Brandon Sklenar) phone number on Lily’s (Blake Lively) phone. According to Baldoni, the scene was particularly difficult for him, and he had to leave and cry afterward.
What did Justin Baldoni say about It Ends With Us?
“He’s very jealous, and he’s heartbroken, and he’s angry, and he doesn’t harm her, but you can see in his eyes how dangerous he is. After that scene, I had a near breakdown,” Baldoni said. “I had to leave and just cry and shake because there was so much pain.”
Baldoni went on to note that it took him “a few months” to have the character of Ryle leave him, and that directing a movie like that while also starring in it can feel like a “lonely job” at times.
“That was very hard and that took a few months,” said Baldoni. “I had dreams as him for a while, and it lived in my body, but I think for the most part, he’s out.”
“Directing is a very lonely job,” Baldoni continued. “You are kind of at the top of this totem pole. In your moments of quiet, everybody has a thousand questions for you and also nobody wants to disturb you and you don’t really have many people to talk to and you can’t necessarily share your anxiety or your nervousness about something because you’re also the leader.”
It Ends With Us is now available to watch on various digital platforms. The film will also begin streaming on December 9, 2024, on Netflix.
