Wicked Class Action Lawsuit Filed Over Porn Link Mistake

A Wicked class action lawsuit is in the works over incorrect packaging on initial releases of Mattel’s line of Wicked dolls, that linked to a porn website instead of the actual website for the film.

A new complaint from Holly Ricketson (via Deadline) was filed today in federal court in California, and that claims that she bought a Wicked doll for her young daughter. After buying the doll, the daughter went on the website listed on the box, ‘Wicked.com,’ which directs to an adult entertainment website rather than the actual Wicked promotional site.

What is the Wicked class action lawsuit about?

“On or about November 11, 2024, Plaintiff purchased a Wicked Doll for her minor daughter,” reads the complaint. “After opening the box that contained the Wicked Doll, Plaintiff’s minor daughter used an iPhone to visit the website shown on Defendant’s packaging. To her absolute shock, the website, ‘Wicked.com’, had nothing to do with the Wicked Doll. Rather, Wicked.com pasted scenes of pornographic advertisements across her phone screen.”

The suit goes on to note that the plaintiff’s daughter was shown hardcore images, and that Mattel didn’t offer “any refund for consumers who had already purchased the dolls.” The lawsuit is seeking upwards of $5 million in damages for those who purchased the toy with the incorrect labels.

While Mattel and Universal have not acknowledged the lawsuit, Mattel did release a statement last month when news of the issue began going viral across the internet. At the time, the company said it regretted the error, and were taking action. They also advised parents to discard of any packaging or to try and obscure the link on the box.

“We deeply regret this unfortunate error and are taking immediate action to remedy this,” said Mattel in a statement last month. “Parents are advised that the misprinted, incorrect website is not appropriate for children. Consumers who already have the product are advised to discard the product packaging or obscure the link and may contact Mattel Customer Service for further information.”

Wicked is available now in theaters, and is currently enjoying an extremely successful run at the box office, having earned over $360 million and broken several records along the way.
