Edward Scissorhands 2 Won’t Happen, Tim Burton Explains Why

Tim Burton has no plans to make Edward Scissorhands 2.

Edward Scissorhands is a gothic fantasy romance movie released by 20th Century Fox in December 1990. Directed by Burton, the film saw Johnny Depp play the titular character, while the cast also includes Winona Ryder as Kim Boggs, Dianne Wiest as Peg Boggs, Anthony Michael Hall as Jim, Kathy Baker as Joyce Monroe, Vincent Price as The Inventor, and Alan Arkin as Bill Boggs.

While Burton recently went back to revisit his 1988 Beetlejuice movie starring Michael Keaton with the recently released sequel, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, the Batman director recently shared he has no interest in making Edward Scissorhands 2.

He also stated that he doesn’t plan to revisit The Nightmare Before Christmas, which was released in 1993 and produced by Burton. Henry Selick directed the movie.

Why doesn’t Tim Burton want to make Edward Scissorhands 2?

Burton told an audience during a Q&A at the Marrakech International Film Festival that fans shouldn’t expect to see him helm an Edward Scissorhands 2.

He continued, via Indiewire, “There are certain films I don’t want to make a sequel to. I didn’t want to make a sequel to that because it felt like a one-off thing. I didn’t want to have a sequel for The Nightmare Before Christmas because it also felt like a one-off thing. Certain things are best left on their own and that for me is one of them.”

Burton is now working on a remake of 1958’s Attack of the 50 Foot Woman for Warner Bros. The original film was directed by Nathan H. Juran and starred Allison Hayes, William Hudson, and Yvette Vickers. Casting for Burton’s remake has not yet been announced. Burton is producing the movie, which is written by Gillian Flynn, alongside Tommy Harper and Andrew Mittman.
