James Gunn Confirms Creature Commandos Star Will Have Live-Action DCU Role
James Gunn has confirmed that Creature Commandos‘ Alan Tudyk will play at least one live-action character in the DCU.
As Gunn and Peter Safran’s DCU officially kicks off next month with the animated Creature Commandos series, it has been confirmed that Tudyk will be voicing three different characters in the show: Doctor Phosphorus, Clayface, and Will Magnus.
On Threads, Gunn was asked if Tudyk will be playing any of his Creature Commandos characters in live-action in other DCU projects.
Gunn answered, “Oh yes.”
What else did James Gunn say about Creature Commandos and the DCU?
Gunn previously said that the DCU will see actors play the same characters in both live-action and animated projects. Frank Grillo, for example, is voicing Rick Flag Sr. in Creature Commandos and then will play the character in live-action in both 2025’s Superman and Peacemaker Season 2.
When asked on Threads if Tudyk being cast in three roles meaning he’ll play three different live-action DCU characters, Gunn said, “As it was always stated, we plan on the actor playing the same role for ‘primary castings’” If it’s a minor character in Creature Commandos we didn’t do live-action far-and-wide searches like we did for more sizable characters like Circe, Nina, etc.”
The first two episodes of Creature Commandos will premiere on Max on December 5, 2024. New episodes will continue to drop weekly, with the finale airing on January 9, 2025.
The series’ voice cast further includes Steve Agee as John Economos, Maria Bakalova as Princess Ilana Rostovic, Anya Chalotra as Circe, Zoë Chao as Nina Mazursky, Sean Gunn as G.I. Robot and Weasel (Sean Gunn has also been tapped to play Maxwell Lord in the DCU, though it is not yet known when that character will make his debut), David Harbour as Eric Frankenstein, Indira Varma as the Bride, and Viola Davis as Amanda Waller.
