Josh Brolin reveals James Cameron’s reaction when he turned down Avatar role
Actor Josh Brolin was the latest guest to have a chat with journalist Graham Bensinger on his show, In Depth with Graham Bensinger. While the actor was there to promote his memoir, he also dived deep into the time when he turned down an offer to star in the Avatar franchise from James Cameron.
In the clip posted by Graham Bensinger on YouTube, Josh Brolin revealed that James Cameron “was angry. I understand it, because when you have something in your mind and you have a status and a power… you’re used to people feeling really grateful that you are offering it to them.” The actor further clarified that he wasn’t fully aware of what Cameron felt after he declined his offer and stated, “I don’t know if that’s the case with him because I don’t know him well enough,” the actor said. “But it was based on the [project]. It wasn’t based on him.”
Josh Brolin touched upon the same topic in an interview with Esquire Magazine in 2017. At that time, he disclosed, “If I don’t want to do Avatar. I’m not going to do Avatar.” Brolin added, “James Cameron’s f***ing calling me this name and that name. Whatever.”
Although it’s now known that Josh Brolin was offered a part in the 2022 film Avatar: The Way of Water by James Cameron, which he dropped, the actor has not spilled any more information about the role he was offered. Avatar 2 became one of the highest-grossing movies of all time when it was released in 2022, making over $2.3 billion at the box office.
