Will Ferrell Is Taken Hostage in New Comedy Movie Judgment Day
Will Ferrell is set to star in and produce Judgment Day, an upcoming comedy from Amazon MGM Studios. It sees Ferrell’s character taken hostage along with an entire courtroom, according to a report from Deadline.
The comedy will be directed by Nicholas Stoller, who previously worked with Ferrell on the upcoming Prime Video comedy You’re Cordially Invited, which is set to release on January 30, 2025. Other casting information is unknown as of now, but Deadline’s report notes that the project is currently in development.
What is Judgment Day about?
The film will follow “a young convict fresh out of prison who takes a reality TV courtroom hostage, blaming the megalomaniac TV judge (Ferrell) for a past ruling that the convict feels ruined his life,” according to a description of the project.
Alongside Ferrell, Stoller, Jessica Elbaum, and Alex Brown are all attached to the film as producers. For Ferrell, it’s yet another movie in an upcoming busy schedule, as the legendary actor just recently signed on to produce and star in Street Justice, a comedy from 20th Century Studios that sees Ferrell playing a “Dirty Harry type” who looks to take justice into his own hands.
Beginning his career in the 1990s as a member of Saturday Night Live, Ferrell has become one of the most well-known and successful actors and comedians in Hollywood. His credits include critically acclaimed comedies like Elf, Anchorman, Talladega Nights, The Other Guys, and more.
He’s also appeared in projects like Megamind, The Lego Movie film franchise, Barbie, and -most recently – Despicable Me 4. His most recent film was the 2024 Netflix documentary Will & Harper, which chronicled his and writer Harper Steele’s relationship following Steele’s gender transition.
Stoller is best known for directing the comedy films Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Get Him to the Greek, Neighbors, and Bros. Most recently, he co-wrote and directed the 2022 romantic comedy Bros, starring Billy Eichner.
