Bridget Jones 4: Hugh Grant Teases Sequel’s ‘Very Moving’ Plot

During a recent interview with People, Golden Globe winner Hugh Grant has opened up about Universal Pictures‘ upcoming Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy, which serves as the fourth installment to the popular romantic comedy franchise.

Grant, who’s set to reprise his role Daniel Cleaver, told fans to expect another “very moving” and “funny” sequel, which will be based on Helen Fielding’s 2013 novel of the same name.

“It is very moving as well as funny,” Grant said. “It’s partly based on Helen Fielding’s experiences of bringing up two children by herself after her husband died. And so Bridget is bringing up two kids and wondering whether she should ever go back to dating. It’s a very good script.”

Who’s involved in Bridget Jones 4?

Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy will be directed by Michael Morris from a screenplay written by Fielding. The project officially reunites franchise vets Renée Zellweger, Emma Thompson and Grant as they reprise their respective roles as Bridget Jones, Dr. Rawling, and Daniel Cleaver. They will be joined by new cast members Chiwetel Ejiofor (The Old Guard) and Leo Woodall (One Day). It is produced by Tim Bevan, Eric Fellner, and Jo Wallett, with Fielding, Amelia Granger and Sarah-Jane Wright set as executive producers.

The franchise, consisting of 2001’s Bridget Jones’ Diary, 2004’s Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason, and 2016’s Bridget Jones’ Baby, has earned a combined worldwide gross of over $760 million at the worldwide box office.
