New Bigfoot Movie Unveils Breathtaking 4K Scan of Patterson-Gimlin Film, Watch HD Footage
Roger Patterson and Bob Gimlin‘s Bigfoot encounter has been released in a new 4K scan ahead of the release of a new documentary. The enhanced footage showcases the Patterson-Gimlin film, which purportedly shows a mysterious figure in 1967.
The museum-quality scan is the best and cleanest version of the footage that now exists. The scan was made directly from the original 16mm film held in the Patterson family collection. The 4K scan will replace the VHS copy the Patterson family has used for licensing requests.
The scan was created for Capturing Bigfoot, a documentary directed by Marq Evans. He previously directed the documentary The Diamond King, which premiered at the 36th annual Palm Springs International Film Festival in January 2025.
What is the new Bigfoot movie about?
Capturing Bigfoot examines the history of Roger Patterson’s footage, recorded in the woods of Northern California on October 20, 1967. According to an official synopsis, the footage “became the most analyzed and debated in history. Fifty-nine years later, a reel of 16mm film discovered in a safe changes everything.”
The upcoming documentary will reveal the untold story “behind the world’s greatest mystery, told for the first time by Patterson’s own son and the people who were there. This is a story about family legacy, broken friendships, and belief itself.”
Evans expressed excitement about being part of the project. The director said he always knew he would make a Bigfoot documentary, “not because the creature itself held any mystique for me, but because the story had been circulating through my blood since childhood, passed down like some strange inheritance from my father.” Evans’ father grew up alongside people connected to the filming of the 1967 Patterson-Gimlin footage.
Evans is producing the documentary alongside Tamir Ardon and Nick Spicer. Douglas Hamm, Lara Hamm, Nate Bolotin, and Aram Tertzakian serve as executive producers.
Capturing Bigfoot releases in theaters on October 20, 2026, and will also be exclusively available to rent or buy on Prime Video.
