M. Night Shyamalan Reveals What Sequel to One of His Biggest Movie Twist Endings Would Be Like

M. Night Shyamalan has revealed how the story behind one of his most talked-about twists could continue within the story that he had written. In a conversation with Collider’s Steve Weintraub, the director of The Last Airbender explained what would happen after the events of one of his most talked-about movies ended.

The Village is one of M. Night Shyamalan’s most high-concept films. The director discussed how he imagines the settlement’s secret eventually being exposed. Shyamalan said that he did not envision how future technologies could undermine the premise, and humorously pointed out that it all might come apart thanks to a kid with a drone.

He said, “I mean, I didn’t know any of this stuff was going to happen when I wrote it. There are teenagers with drones going, ‘There are people in there!’ It would be hard to maintain it, so I would imagine in a future, whether it’s five years or 10 years or 20 years, it would be infiltrated by the real world, and then they would have woken up anyway.”

M. Night Shyamalan has a new movie coming out next year

M. Night Shyamalan’s Remain is set for release on February 5, 2027. It is based on a concept that he developed with Nicholas Sparks, who published a version of the story as a novel in 2025. Shyamalan wrote the screenplay for the movie version of that story.

The cast includes Jake Gyllenhaal, Phoebe Dynevor, Ashley Walters, Julie Hagerty, Jay O. Sanders, Tracy Ifeachor, Hannah James, Caleb Ruminer, Ryan Gosling, Kieran Mulcare, and Maria Dizzia. Shyamalan also has a cameo in the movie.

Shyamalan is also producing the movie, with Ashwin Rajan, Theresa Park, and Marc Bienstock. Remain follows an architect named Tate Gordon, who is looking to start afresh after suffering from depression. He is still grieving his sister’s death and seeks a fresh start by taking on a building project for a friend.
