Taxi Driver Meets American History X in Where Sweet Dreams Die Trailer | Exclusive

ComingSoon is exclusively debuting the trailer for Where Sweet Dreams Die. Helmed by Mirza Esho, the movie is written by Zachary Laoutides, who also plays the lead role. The project comes from the producers of Taxi Driver and American History X.

According to an official synopsis, the film focuses on the character of “Luca Brunello, an Italian-American restaurant owner whose life begins unraveling as his family business faces collapse and his wife battles cancer. Desperate to hold onto the life he built, Luca becomes increasingly fixated on Ashton Nassar, a Syrian refugee and cabdriver whose determination to build his own American Dream forces Luca to confront what has become of his own. As Luca’s resentment deepens, he turns his anger toward the government and the president before his fixation on Ashton sends the two men toward a collision.”

What do we see in the Where Sweet Dreams Die trailer?

Where Sweet Dreams Die trailer opens with a stunning shot of Brooklyn and a captivating voiceover that sets the tone for the rest of the clip. “This was the land of opportunity. Now it’s a place where good men get left behind. While strangers build their dreams on the ashes of ours.”

The story highlights Luca Brunello, played by Laoutides, an Italian-American restaurant owner who witnesses a sudden collapse in his professional life. Meanwhile, a refugee and cab driver, Ashton Nassar, played by Emmanuel Isaac, tries to achieve his American dream.

Luca’s voiceover then says, “They took what was ours, our work, our pride.” The trailer teases its dark and violent plot with a final line. “When dreams die, monsters are born.”

The cast also features Marius Iliescu as Ivan. Ahead of its official release, the film has already garnered acclaim across multiple events. Its director Mirza Esho, who also served as the cinematographer, won Best Director and Best Cinematography at the Beverly Hills Film Festival.

The movie also made its New York premiere at Dances With Films. Additionally, it’s been selected for the Arpa International Film Festival, where it is in contention for Best Feature Film.

Buffalo 8’s Where Sweet Dreams Die will be released in select theaters and on demand on September 25, 2026.
