Heart Eyes 2 Update: Olivia Holt’s Holiday Slasher Sequel Movie Scores Earlier Release Date

Olivia Holt‘s Heart Eyes 2 is getting closer to bringing the holiday slasher franchise back to theaters. The film is the follow-up to 2025’s Heart Eyes, which combined romance and comedy with a holiday-themed horror story. Josh Ruben is directing the film and co-writing the screenplay with Darcy Fowler.

According to Deadline, Heart Eyes 2 will now hit theaters on February 4, 2028, one week earlier than its previously scheduled February 11 release. The Paramount Pictures and Spyglass co-production has moved away from a Disney event film set for February 11. Instead, it will go up against Universal’s Murder, She Wrote. The new date gives the sequel a different opening-weekend lineup.

What’s next for the killer romance?

Ruben is directing the sequel from a screenplay he wrote with Fowler. Christopher Landon and Michael Kennedy developed the story, and both were also involved with the original Heart Eyes. Landon is producing the new film alongside Divide/Conquer.

Heart Eyes featured Holt as Ally, with Mason Gooding playing Jay. Their characters were co-workers who found themselves caught in the Heart Eyes Killer’s attacks after being mistakenly identified as a romantic couple. The cast also included Gigi Zumbado, Michaela Watkins, Devon Sawa, Jordana Brewster, and Yoson An.

The original Heart Eyes also received a positive response from critics. The film currently holds a 78% Tomatometer score from 181 reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, along with a 76% audience score. It also earned $30.4 million domestically and $33.1 million worldwide during its theatrical run.

The sequel is still in development, so the filmmakers have yet to reveal additional details about its cast, characters, and story. With its new theatrical date now set, more announcements could provide a clearer idea of how Heart Eyes 2 will build on the original film’s Valentine’s Day premise.

For now, Heart Eyes 2 will hit theaters on February 4, 2028. With Ruben returning to the franchise and Landon involved as a producer, the sequel will continue the series’ combination of romance and slasher horror.
