In an exclusive update, Empire Magazine revealed Mackey’s costume from Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew. The 30-year-old star will play Jadis, who will ultimately become the White Witch.
Speaking about her role, the Barbie actor seemed elated as she told Empire Magazine, “In the script she’s described as ‘all chaos and bad plans.’ She’s this larger-than-life creature.”
However, the glam-rock aesthetic drew sharp reactions on social media. @H4rshhh expressed their displeasure, saying, “What the f–k happened to Narnia ?? m– are really ruining one more epic.”
Another fan, @tt_delrey sounded disappointed as the post read, “I have lost all hopes for this film.” Meanwhile, @urShmeat predicted that this movie will not match the original Narnia hype. The comment read, “This s–t is going to be nowhere close to the original Narnia.”

While Emma Mackey is playing the role of White Witch, Greta Gerwig’s Narnia features a star-studded cast. Meryl Streep will voice the great lion Aslan in Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew. The cast also features Daniel Craig, Carey Mulligan, Ciarán Hinds, Denise Gough, Kobna Holdbrook-Smith, David McKenna, and Beatrice Campbell.
Reflecting on her decision to cast Streep as Aslan, the Barbie director told Empire, “I wanted someone who was profound but not pretentious, who had gravitas but not morose self-seriousness. Someone who could communicate depth and pathos as well as joy and delight.”
Further praising the The Devil Wears Prada actor, Gerwig said, “I wanted someone who was older than 70, so there was a wisdom of experience, but who also had the capacity of fresh wonder, like a child. And also to be one of the greatest actors to ever do it. That list is not a long one.”
In addition to directing the film, Greta Gerwig is also serving as a producer. Mark Gordon, Amy Pascal, Douglas Gresham, and Vincent Sieber are also producing the project. Gresham will additionally serve as an executive producer alongside Melvin Adams and Patricia Whitcher, while Christina Crais is attached as a co-producer.
