Narnia: Greta Gerwig’s The Magician’s Nephew Unveils First Look at Daniel Craig’s Character
The first look at Daniel Craig in Greta Gerwig’s Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew has been revealed. The upcoming movie will be a reboot of the long-running franchise based on C. S. Lewis’s iconic book series.
Empire has unveiled the first look at Daniel Craig’s character, Uncle Andrew. The image shows the Hollywood star in his complete costume.
Additionally, Craig has also teased Andrew’s motives in the movie. “I’d like to say that his intentions are good, but I’m not sure that they are,” he told Empire. “It’s not to say that he’s cruel and mean and awful.”
The Magician gives Daniel Craig a very different role in Greta Gerwig’s Narnia
Contrary to his previous roles in James Bond and Knives Out, where he played characters involved in crime or action-driven plots, Daniel Craig will play a magician in Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew.
As Uncle Andrew, he portrayed him as a scheming sorcerer who becomes deeply caught up in his own world. “He gets overexcited about what could be, and therefore overlooks people around him and the consequences of what he’s doing.”
According to writer-director Greta Gerwig, Andrew is “the stupidest magician in the world” who somehow managed to make magic. In the movie, his actions will have major consequences not just for his nephew Digory and neighbor Polly, but also for Aslan and the antagonist, Jadis, the White Witch.
In a recent interview with Empire, Gerwig said that her movie draws heavily on the music of the 1960s and 1970s. “It is a world sung to life by Aslan, and rock ’n’ roll to me felt like a world made out of music.”
Besides Craig, the film’s cast includes Emma Mackey, David McKenna, Beatrice Campbell, Carey Mulligan, Kobna Holdbrook-Smith, and Meryl Streep.
Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew will hit theaters on February 12, 2027. Later, it will debut on Netflix on April 2, 2027.
