300 Prequel TV Show Gets Great Update From Zack Snyder, Details Directing Involvement
Zack Snyder has shared an encouraging update on the long-awaited 300 prequel TV show. Snyder recently confirmed that the project is moving forward while also revealing that he expects to direct part of the upcoming historical drama.
Speaking in a recent interview with Josh Horowitz of Happy Sad Confused on YouTube, Snyder discussed his plans to return to the world he created for his 2006 blockbuster.
“It’s a very rich universe, the 300 universe,” Snyder said when asked about the television project. He indicated that the series is making progress, describing the prequel as “very exciting and very good.”
When asked if he planned to direct some of the episodes himself, Snyder replied, “I think so.”
The potential Netflix series would continue Snyder’s relationship with the streamer, which includes projects such as Army of the Dead and the Rebel Moon films. His involvement behind the camera could also bring back the visual style associated with the original 300. The original film is known for its stylized action, dramatic slow motion, and distinctive depiction of ancient warfare.

Details about the story remain limited, although Snyder has confirmed that the television project is different from another 300-related story he developed during the COVID-19 pandemic.
That project, titled Blood and Ashes, initially began as an idea for another 300 movie. However, Snyder’s historical research eventually took the story in a completely different direction.
“It was an Alexander the Great story that got hijacked by history when I did my research, and it turned into… a love story between Alexander and Hephaestion,” Snyder further explained. “It just completely diverged from the 300 universe completely and became its own thing.”
As a result, Blood and Ashes ultimately moved away from the 300 mythology. The upcoming television prequel is instead being developed within the 300 universe.
Snyder directed 300, which starred Gerard Butler as King Leonidas and followed the Spartan king and his warriors during the Battle of Thermopylae. The film became a major box-office success and helped establish the filmmaker’s signature visual style.
The prequel could now expand that mythology while giving Snyder an opportunity to return to the franchise. The project would mark Snyder’s return to the 300 universe.
