Adam Driver & Anne Hathaway Pair Up for Amazon MGM Movie, Release Date Set

Adam Driver and Anne Hathaway will share the screen in Ron Howard’s next directorial effort for Amazon MGM Studios. The studio has now reportedly confirmed when audiences can see the pair in the true-life war drama, slotting it into a competitive holiday corridor.

Amazon MGM Studios will roll out Alone at Dawn in a platform release starting December 25, 2027. The film then expands on January 7 before going wide over the MLK weekend, January 14-17. Ron Howard directs the Imagine Entertainment production. Anne Hathaway, Adam Driver and Betty Gilpin lead the cast. Gilpin recently picked up an Emmy, while Hathaway holds an Oscar and Driver has two Academy Award nominations.

The screenplay adapts Dan Schilling and Lori Longfritz’s 2019 book. It centers on Air Force combat controller John Chapman, who died fighting to protect his fellow soldiers. An intelligence officer later works to prove Chapman’s valor, and that investigation leads to Chapman receiving the Medal of Honor.

Michael Russell Gunn wrote the adaptation. Imagine’s Brian Grazer, Howard, Jeb Brody and Allan Mandelbaum produce alongside Hideaway Entertainment’s Jonathan Gray, Matthew Rhodes, Ron West, Kristy Grisham, William M. Connor and Patrick Newall. Thruline Entertainment also produces.

Amazon MGM apparently sees awards potential in Alone at Dawn. The Christmas corridor has launched prestige war dramas before, including American Sniper, Lone Survivor and 1917. Insiders say the film is still finishing post-production, which makes next holiday season the right window.

Nonetheless, both leads stay busy. Adam Driver has Paper Tiger set for 2026, plus Misty Green, an untitled X-Men reboot in 2028, and talks for Heat 2. Anne Hathaway recently appeared in The Devil Wears Prada 2, The End of Oak Street, and The Odyssey, and she leads Verity next.

All in all, with Driver, Hathaway, and Gilpin aboard, Alone at Dawn gives the studio a prestige tentpole built for the awards race.
