Supernatural’s Jared Padalecki-Led Guarding Stars Just Got Its Netflix Release Date
Netflix has reportedly decided on a fall release date for Guarding Stars, the romantic comedy starring Jared Padalecki and Leighton Meester. The film adapts Katherine Center’s novel The Bodyguard, which spent weeks on bestseller lists after its 2022 release.
Netflix sets release date for Guarding Stars based on Katherine Center’s The Bodyguard novel
The streamer will debut Guarding Stars on November 18. The date positions Guarding Stars within Netflix’s seasonal lineup of book adaptations with country and Western themes, a category that has performed well for the platform in recent years (via Deadline).
Fans of Center’s book helped rename the project. The original title would have collided with the 1992 Warner Bros. film The Bodyguard, which starred Kevin Costner and Whitney Houston. After consulting readers, the filmmakers settled on Guarding Stars, a title that nods to the novel’s Texas setting and its central romance.
Center’s story tracks a no-nonsense executive protection agent hired to guard a charming action star during the Christmas season. The assignment forces both characters to lower their defenses, and complications multiply as secrets emerge. The novel was published by St. Martin’s Press in July 2022.
Jared Padalecki and Leighton Meester lead the cast, and the supporting ensemble brings together talent from music, wrestling, and television. Andie MacDowell will be in a key role. Country singer Walker Hayes, who performed the viral hit Fancy Like, joins the film. Toby Sandeman, seen in Running Point, also stars. Noah LaLonde, who plays Cole Walter in My Life With the Walter Boys, adds to the country crossover appeal. Additionally, CM Punk, the WWE star and voice actor in Zootopia 2, signed on for a part.
Elizabeth Allen Rosenbaum is directing the movie. Her credits include Aquamarine and Purple Hearts, the latter a major Netflix romance hit. Erin Cardillo and Richard Keith wrote the script. The pair previously worked on Isn’t It Romantic and Virgin River. Gina Matthews and Grant Scharbo produce for Little Engine Productions. Jared and Genevieve Padalecki produce under their Living in the Asterisk company.
