Watch Will Smith Nearly Injure Himself During First Day of Filming New Supermax Movie

Supermax will mark the first non-franchise studio film that Will Smith has done in a long time. The Bad Boys alum is no stranger to buddy cop films, which makes him a perfect fit for the feature. It follows two FBI agents trying to solve a murder in the world’s most secure prison. Prime Video’s official X account posted a video showing how Will Smith almost injured himself on the first day of the shoot.

The actor cracks jokes about how he may need to be rushed to Sydney Medical Center, after he almost tripped climbing the stairs to his vanity van. Smith also showed off a gift from his son, his red-bottom shoes, in the video.

What else do we know about the Supermax movie with Will Smith?

Supermax will be Will Smith’s first film since his 2024 feature, Bad Boys: Ride or Die. The film is set to pair Smith with a female lead, played by I Play Rocky star AnnaSophia Robb, who will be tasked with solving the film’s central mystery. Smith first signed on for the film in May. In the same month, Amazon MGM Studios was able to bag the worldwide distribution deal for the film for a reported $70 million. David Gordon Green will direct the film. It will not receive a theatrical release.

Nicholas Alexander Chavez, Andrés Almeida, Bats Bradford, and Jaafar Jackson have all been revealed to be part of the film’s cast. The project is helmed by Miramax. David Weil and David J. Rosen shared writing responsibilities on the film. The duo previously worked on hit television series like Hunters and Invasion. The film marks the continued push from Will Smith to establish himself in Hollywood once again, after taking a step back following his 2022 altercation with Chris Rock during the 94th Academy Awards.

With production underway, no official release date has been released for Supermax.
