Masters of the Universe 2: Why He-Man Fans Are Suddenly Begging Mattel for a Sequel

Masters of the Universe made a major comeback on streaming after a disappointing box-office performance. As the movie continues to generate soaring viewing time, fans are now hoping for a sequel.

Most recently, The Hollywood Reporter cited Nielsen’s streaming ratings list, where Masters of the Universe secured the No. 1 spot on the overall ranking. The movie debuted on Prime Video on July 22, just weeks after its theatrical release. Within one week of its streaming release, the film generated 1.17 billion minutes of watch time. The only other title to cross the billion-minute threshold is The Big Bang Theory on HBO Max.

Fans of the movie have now taken to social media to demand a sequel. In a reply to THR’s report, many X users have tagged Mattel, Prime Video, and the official Masters of the Universe X page, begging the companies to greenlight a sequel.

One fan, @Redpyramid9, wrote, “Can we get that Masters of the Universe sequel now?” Another user, @Lisertan, requested, “Can we get a sequel pretty please?” A third fan, @JaimeEnFuego, suggested, “Justify a sequel with #SheRa, though?”

Meanwhile, @agentofchaos22 complained about fans not supporting the movie in theaters. They said, “Well don’t mean sh-t lol yall should have gone to the theaters and see it. We could have gotten a sequel lol.”

The $170 million Masters of the Universe movie struggled at the box office

Masters of the Universe grossed a worldwide total of a little under $114 million against a budget of $170 million. It was originally projected to gross $30–35 million in its opening weekend but ended up making $29.3 million. The number further dropped in the second week, grossing just $8.6 million. Despite the lukewarm box-office performance, the movie is now a massive streaming hit as fans continue to petition for a sequel.

Directed by Travis Knight, the movie stars Nicholas Galitzine, Camila Mendes, Idris Elba, Jared Leto, Alison Brie, and more.
