Michael Fassbender & Alicia Vikander’s Alien Sci-Fi Movie Gets Early Release Date

A new South Korean sci-fi thriller starring Michael Fassbender and Alicia Vikander is heading for theaters. Hope had its world premiere at the main competition of the 79th Cannes Film Festival in May 2026.

Neon has just announced an exclusive early-access premium format screening event for Hope on Monday, September 7. The early screening will take place two days ahead of its nationwide theatrical release on September 9 (via Deadline). Fans will now get an opportunity to experience the movie earlier.

As per the announcement, Hope will screen at 175 PLF locations across the country in six premium formats. This includes Dolby, 4DX, ScreenX, Barco HDR, D-BOX and Dolby Atmos. Participating theaters are in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, San Francisco, Dallas, and more.

Neon had previously used the same early-access approach for Osgood Perkins’ The Monkey. The strategy generated positive buzz among fans before the film went on to gross $40 million at the box office. The distributor is now taking a similar approach with Hope in an effort to replicate that success.

What to know about Na Hong-jin’s sci-fi thriller Hope

Written and directed by Na Hong-jin, Hope takes place in the remote South Korean village of Hope Harbor. The movie follows a police chief and his rookie deputy as they investigate a series of mysterious attacks and deadly events in the remote village.

Locals believe that an unknown creature is behind all the mishaps. As the hunt for the entity continues, with locals joining in, the roles of predator and prey begin to blur. Meanwhile, a deeper cosmic mystery begins to unravel.

Hope features an international ensemble cast that includes Hoyeon, Hwang Jung-min, Zo In-sung, Taylor Russell, Cameron Britton, along with Alicia Vikander and Michael Fassbender. The science fiction thriller is produced by Forged Films and co-produced by Plus M Entertainment and Westworld.

The movie marks the first on-screen collaboration between the married actors, Vikander and Fassbender, since The Light Between Oceans.
