Treasure Island Cast: Ridley Scott & Hugh Jackman Movie Eyeing Hugh Grant, Big Emmy Winner

Ridley Scott’s upcoming Treasure Island film may be adding two huge stars after casting Hugh Jackman. During the promotional tour for his imminent film, The Dog Stars, Scott spoke about the actors he wishes to work with next. Treasure Island will see Jackman play Long John Silver, the one-legged pirate and cook.

In an interview with Collider, Scott revealed more details about the film’s cast, confirming talks with other actors. When asked if he will start working on Treasure Island next, Scott said, “Yes, with Hugh Jackman. I hope Hugh Grant, and I hope the kid from Adolescence.” And just like that, the filmmaker has confirmed that he is eying Owen Cooper, the Emmy-winning star, to play Jim Hawkins in Treasure Island.

What else do we know about Ridley Scott’s Treasure Island movie?

The film is based on Robert Louis Stevenson’s 1883 novel. The story follows a young Jim Hawkins on a journey to find pirate gold. Along the way, he unwittingly hires a cook, Long John Silver, who secretly plans a mutiny aboard the Hispaniola.

Since its publication, Treasure Island has been adapted several times, with feature films dating all the way from the silent era to the early 2000s. Earlier this year, a Treasure Island TV series was greenlit by Paramount+ UK, with David Oyelowo playing Long John Silver (via Deadline).

There is also another link between Scott and Cooper. Treasure Island is being written by Jack Thorne, who also wrote on and was one of the creators of Adolescence. Should Cooper and Grant be cast in Treasure Island, it will be the first time the actors have worked with Scott on a feature film.

The Dog Stars releases in theaters on August 28, 2026. The Treasure Island film currently doesn’t have a release date. It is being produced by Scott and Michael Pruss.
