Wildcards Trailer: Aries Spears Courtroom Drama Movie Was Shot in Real Time | Exclusive

ComingSoon is exclusively revealing the Wildcards trailer for the upcoming courtroom drama. It’s written and directed by Wes Miller, best known for Black Heat, Call Her King, A Day to Die, and more. It will be released in theaters on August 27, 2026.

According to the official synopsis, Wildcards “blurs the line between cinema and theatre. Shot in real time, it follows the trial of Theodore Sterling, a privileged young man accused of sexually assaulting a young Black woman. As jurors from vastly different backgrounds clash over the evidence, tensions escalate between Assistant State Attorney James Jones, a determined prosecutor, and Greg Sims, a veteran defense attorney with a flawless 25-year record.”

What do we see in the Wildcards trailer?

The Wildcards trailer shows a unique experience as the movie is shot in real time, each day, focusing on an intense courtroom story. It sheds light on the trial of Theodore Sterling, played by Crew Morrow. The character is a young, rich man who gets caught in a sexual assault case after being accused by a Black woman, played by Stakiah Lynn Washington.

As the jurors clash over the evidence, the plot witnesses the entry of a mysterious, wildcard witness who claims to know the truth about the night in question. Her close connection with the accused raises unsettling questions of bias, credibility, and justice—threatening to upend the entire trial.

Wildcards’ cast also features Aries Spears (MADtv) as Assistant State Attorney James Jones and Leon Robinson (Swarm, The Five Heartbeats) as a veteran defense attorney, Greg Sims. Other key cast members are Elise Neal (All of Us), Samantha Walkes (Orphan: First Kill), Courtney Gace, and Robert Catrini (Jack Reacher: Never Go Back).

Wes Miller’s previous projects have managed to strike a chord with the audience members. His 2023 crime thriller Call Her King was admired a lot for its stellar performances, including Lance Gross, Naturi Naughton, and Jason Mitchell, among others. Currently, the movie holds an impressive Popcornmeter score of 88% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Miller’s 2022 action movie A Day to Die also managed to win over the fans. Currently, it holds an amazing Popcornmeter score of 84% on Rotten Tomatoes.
