Lord Miller’s production banner has signed on to develop a film based on Forrest Brazeal’s upcoming debut novel Paradox Inc. at Universal Pictures, according to Deadline.
Oscar-winning director Daniel Roher will helm the project using a screenplay penned by Matthew Robinson. Lord and Miller will serve as producers under their existing first-look agreement with Universal. Lucy Kitada and Aditya Sood will join as producers alongside Brazeal as executive producer.
The story centers on a fierce competition between an ambitious startup and a chaotic Big Tech corporation. Both companies rush to create the first time machine designed for everyday consumers. The ultimate reward involves gaining dominion over reality itself. Yet the technology sector’s approach to temporal displacement operates in unexpected ways.
Roher and Robinson are jointly crafting the treatment for the upcoming feature right now. Robinson previously penned the hit Netflix genre-blending film The Last House. He additionally wrote Gore Verbinski’s recent project Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die. Roher earned an Academy Award for his 2022 documentary about Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny.
Brazeal formerly held a position at Google amid the height of the AI and crypto booms. He additionally established the technology marketing firm Freeman & Forrest. Lord Miller most recently backed Project Hail Mary, which earned $684M globally for Amazon MGM Studios. The company additionally produced the Nicolas Cage-fronted Spider-Noir series for MGM+ and Prime Video. That series has garnered 11 Emmy nominations this awards season.
