Michael Johnston addresses rumors linking him to The Mummy 4 cast
While speaking with Collider‘s Perri Nemiroff, Michael Johnston addressed the speculation about him appearing in the next Mummy movie. He noted that he thinks it would be “incredible” to work with the directors attached to the project.
“When I heard that [Radio Silence] were directing it, I was like ‘Oh! Interesting!'” the Obsession actor remarked. “When I heard about that, I actually went back and watched the first Mummy, and I was like, ‘Oh yeah, I remember why I watched this movie 20 times when I was a kid.’ And I’ve been thinking about how they’re gonna take the classic Mummy story and put that spin on it and kind of subvert expectations. So that’d be really exciting.”
Johnston’s response comes after recent reports claimed that the actor is currently in early talks to join the upcoming film’s cast. However, neither Johnston nor Universal Pictures has shared any official confirmation that he has been cast.
At the time of writing, confirmed cast members for The Mummy 4 include Brendan Fraser, Rachel Weisz, and John Hannah, who will be reprising their roles from the fan-favorite action-adventure franchise. Meanwhile, Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett of Radio Silence will be directing. Longtime franchise producer Sean Daniel is also returning, along with William Sherak, James Vanderbilt, and Paul Neinstein through Project X Entertainment.
Production on The Mummy 4 is expected to commence sometime next month, with Universal setting an October 15, 2027 release date.
