Spider-Man: Why Tom Holland Is Unsure if the MCU Can Pull Off Iconic Symbiote Suit
Tom Holland is not sure if the MCU can do justice to Spider-Man’s iconic black suit. Ever since the post-credits scene of Spider-Man: No Way Home revealed that a part of the symbiote was left behind in the MCU, fan speculation has grown.
Marking nearly ten years of donning the role of Peter Parker ahead of Spider-Man: Brand New Day’s release, Holland sat down with Josh Horowitz. Shedding light on whether he will ever wear the black suit, the 30-year-old British actor had a surprising answer on the Happy Sad Confused podcast.
“I think that’s really cool. I think if we ever got to do a black suit in Spider-Man, I don’t know how we would tackle that challenge because they did it so well in the game, right?”
Elaborating about the challenges, Holland pointed out that recreating a similar black suit from the games might be a tough ask without the use of high-quality CGI. For context, the game Holland was referring to was Insomniac’s Spider-Man video game.
Insomniac’s Spider-Man games set a high standard for the Symbiote suit
Insomniac gave Spider-Man the iconic black suit in the 2023 PlayStation sequel. Immediately after its release, the suit garnered a lot of praise from the fans. One of the biggest highlights was the detailing on the suit that made it appear lifelike. Additionally, the symbiote suit also came with multiple combat abilities that significantly improved the web-slinger’s fighting skills.
Furthermore, it also exhibited traversal mechanics, coupled with advanced elements of gameplay. Looking at such a high standard, Holland seems to be in a dilemma over whether the MCU can match that level in live-action movies.
Interestingly, despite a much-awaited Spider-Man and Venom crossover never happening in the MCU, recent comments from Kevin Feige have ignited fans’ interest. Speaking with Josh Horowitz during Brand New Day’s promotion, the Marvel boss gave a cryptic “always have hope” reply. Teasing the possibility further, Amy Pascal also stated, “I have hope. We have hope.”
