The first trailer for The Thomas Crown Affair proves that Michael B. Jordan is Hollywood’s most valuable star.

Amazon MGM Studios has unveiled the teaser trailer for The Thomas Crown Affair, a heist thriller starring Jordan as Thomas Crown, the billionaire who secretly moonlights as a thief. After his latest heist, Jordan is hunted by an insurance investigator, played by Adria Arjona, but the two fall in love in the process.

The rest of the cast includes Kenneth Branagh, Lily Gladstone, Danai Gurira, and Pilou Asbæk.

Jordan directs The Thomas Crown Affair from a screenplay by Drew Pearce and Jason Hall, based on a story by Alan R. Trustman and Pearce. It’s the third adaptation of The Thomas Crown Affair. Steve McQueen and Faye Dunaway starred in the 1968 original, while Pierce Brosnan and Rene Russo headlined the 1999 remake. Jordan’s adaptation has been described as a reimagining of the source material and not a reboot.

The Thomas Crown Affair is Jordan’s second directorial effort following Creed III. The 39-year-old is quickly building up a resume that few stars can match. Jordan’s versatility makes him one of Hollywood’s greatest assets.

The Thomas Crown Affair, which arrives in theaters on March 5, 2027, marks a major evolution in Jordan’s career. The 39-year-old is separating himself from other under-40 stars — including Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Tom Holland, and Sydney Sweeney — by his ability to act, produce, and direct at a high level.

Hollywood keeps looking for its next big stars to carry the torch from the likes of Tom Cruise. While Jordan certainly has similarities to Cruise, Robert Redford make a better comparison. As an old-school A-list star, Redford was hands-on in his career and found success in acting, producing, and directing. I see a similar path for Jordan, who clearly wants to continue directing.

In a market driven by auteurs like Christopher Nolan and Ryan Coogler, perhaps Jordan can become add his name to that list if The Thomas Crown Affair becomes a hit.
