Spider-Man 4 Is Breaking The Odyssey’s Box Office Records Before MCU Movie Is Even Released
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is already setting major milestones ahead of its theatrical release. The new Tom Holland-led movie has broken a record set by his previous film, which was released earlier this month.
In a recent report by Fandango, the superhero movie has broken the record as the platform’s biggest first-day ticket pre-seller of 2026.
This record was previously held by Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey. The upcoming movie is set “to become the largest movie launch of the year,” according to the nation’s leading online movie ticketing service. Moreover, this movie also made it to the platform’s all-time first-day ticket pre-sales top 10 list.
According to Deadline, the Destin Daniel Cretton-directed movie is estimated to earn $465 million in its opening weekend. Previously, Spider-Man: No Way Home earned $600.5 million globally in its opening weekend.
If the projections are accurate, Brand New Day will rank among the top-grossing opening weekends for Marvel Studios, trailing only Avengers: Infinity War, which earned $640.5 million and Avengers: Endgame, with $1.22 billion.
Comparatively, the other biggest movie of the year, Nolan’s epic The Odyssey, earned about $50 million in ticket pre-sales and $264.1 million on the opening weekend. The Matt Damon-led movie currently sits at a worldwide gross of over $666.7 million.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day lands a major Rotten Tomatoes win before release
Besides being Fandango’s number-one pre-sale ticket seller of the year, the fourth installment of the franchise has broken another record on Rotten Tomatoes.
The Brand New Day has officially earned a Certified Fresh designation on Rotten Tomatoes. It debuted with a 91% Tomatometer score based on 163 critic reviews. While the score dipped to 89% previously, it has since climbed back as more reviews have poured in.
Reviewers on the platform have praised the action film and have also compared it to Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 2. The movie’s story focuses more on the character in his human form than on the friendly-neighborhood web-slinger. Peter Parker must face many adversaries with a few allies as the titular hero.
Tickets to Spider-Man: Brand New Day are available for sale on Fandango. The movie will hit theaters on July 31, 2026.
