Summer I Turned Pretty’s Sean Kaufman Joins Oscar-Winning Director’s Video Game Movie
Sean Kaufman has been cast in a new movie helmed by an Oscar-winning director. The Summer I Turned Pretty actor is one of the early cast members in the adaptation of Gabrielle Zevin’s best-selling novel about video game developers.

Sean Kaufman is now part of Paramount’s upcoming adaptation of Zevin’s novel, Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow. The upcoming film will be directed by Siân Heder, who has won the Best Picture Oscar for the 2021 coming-of-age movie, CODA. Heder is also writing the screenplay based on a draft from Zevin and Mark Bomback.
Kaufman will star as one of the leads alongside Daisy Edgar-Jones and Sky Yang. Yang’s casting was announced alongside Kaufman’s. In the adaptation, Kaufman will play Marx Watanabe. Edgar-Jones had previously been cast as Sadie Green, while Yang is set to play Sam Masur.
As per Variety, the synopsis reads, “Set over several decades, the story follows Sadie and her co-collaborator Sam Masur, who meet as children and then reunite as college students, as well as Sam’s roommate and friend Marx Watanabe, as they build a video game studio called Unfair Games. The story looks at the passion and heartbreak of creative collaboration, and unfolds against the rising video game industry of the 1990s-2000s.”
The Summer I Turned Pretty actor is a rising star, also known for For All Mankind and Stumble. His upcoming projects include Other Mommy, Alone at Dawn, and an untitled movie by Daniels featuring Matt Damon.
The movie will be produced by Wyck Godfrey, Marty Bowen, and Isaac Klausner. Zevin will also serve as an executive producer.
Her novel was released in 2022 and has sold more than four million copies worldwide and has been published in 40 international territories. Moreover, The New York Times named it one of the best books of the 21st century, while the Los Angeles Times listed it among the best fiction books of the past 30 years.
The upcoming film is slated to release on November 12, 2027.
