Avengers: Doomsday Brings Back the X-Men’s Sentinels With a Stunning MCU Redesign

The Sentinels from X-Men have received a new comic-accurate MCU design. At SDCC 2026, the design was teased at the Marvel booth. The X-Men villains take on a new look compared with their previous live-action designs, and fans are impressed.

Marvel’s new Avengers: Doomsday Sentinels feature a heavily armored comic-inspired look

At San Diego Comic Con, the decapitated head of a Sentinel was on display at the Marvel booth. The design is dramatically different from previous live-action versions. It appears more mechanical and militaristic, closely resembling its comic-book counterpart.

The Sentinels are mutant-hunting robots and villains in the X-Men universe that were created by Bolivar Trask to eliminate the mutant population. They were previously seen in X-Men: Days of Future Past. Unlike their previous live-action designs, this version looks more grounded and mechanical.

The display at Comic-Con shows a defeated Sentinel with exposed wiring in its decapitated head. This indicates that although they would be major obstacles in the way of the heroes, they can be defeated.

The Avengers: Doomsday trailer confirmed that these mutant hunters would be part of the new movie. In the third official trailer, they were shown in a shot where Cyclops, played by James Marsden, fires his optic blast at them.

The movie will bring the collision of the multiverse, assembling not only the Avengers but also the X-Men and Fantastic Four members. The trailer also shows the Avengers clashing with the X-Men in a heated battle. They must ultimately unite to defeat threats such as the Sentinels and Doctor Doom in an attempt to prevent the events leading to Secret Wars.

The upcoming instalment in the franchise is helmed by the Russo brothers. It will see the return of older cast members along with the newer ensemble. These include Marsden, Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Mackie, Vanessa Kirby, Paul Rudd, Florence Pugh, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Rebecca Romijn, Tom Hiddleston, and Channing Tatum.

Avengers: Doomsday will be out in theaters on December 18, 2026, followed by Secret Wars on December 17, 2027.
