Glen Powell & Richard Linklater Reunite for Surprising New Movie After Hit Man Success

Glen Powell and Richard Linklater will team up again in an untitled project. The new movie will be based on a beloved New York Yankees athlete. The production details are still under wraps.

What do we know about Glen Powell and Richard Linklater’s new movie?

Powell and Linklater previously worked together on Everybody Wants Some!! based on the chaotic life of college baseball students. However, Deadline reported that the two will team up in another baseball movie.

According to the report, the movie is based on Lou Gehrig from the New York Yankees. In the newly announced project, Powell will play the baseball star, helmed by Linklater. The duo recently worked together on the rom-com Hit Man, which resulted in great success.

Although the plot details remain to be revealed, Simon Rich will be writing the story based on the Yankee player’s career and life. No other casting details are out yet. There’s no release date set for the movie as it is in the pre-production stage.

Gehrig story is loved by many but is told only once in Pride of the Yankees, the 1942 drama starring Gary Cooper and helmed by Sam Wood. Considered one of the greatest baseball players of all time, he earned the nickname The Iron Horse of baseball. He won six World Series with the Yankees, including the 1927 World Series, a year the team had its greatest players.

Unfortunately, his career came to an abrupt halt as he was diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) in 1939.

During his retirement ceremony, he gave an iconic speech at Yankee Stadium: “For the past two weeks you have been reading about a bad break. Yet today I consider myself the luckiest man on the face of the earth.”

Two years after his diagnosis, the Iron Horse of baseball was laid to rest at age 37 in 1941.
