Netflix’s 13 Going on 30 Reboot Brings Back Jennifer Garner, but Is Mark Ruffalo in It?
Jennifer Garner is officially part of Netflix’s reboot of 13 Going on 30, appearing alongside another familiar face from the beloved 2004 original. Set photos published on Tuesday further confirmed the actress’s role in the reimagining.

Garner, who played the charmingly chaotic Jenna Rink in the original film, was already attached to the project as an executive producer. Last week, she hinted to Variety that she might visit the set, joking about appearing in the background of whatever scene replaces the iconic “Thriller” dance.
But the recently leaked set photo tells a different story. It shows Jennifer Garner in costume and filming a scene at a building in Santa Monica, California, alongside Emily Bader and Judy Greer, who originally played Jenna’s scheming frenemy Lucy “Tom-Tom” Wyman.
Netflix has not officially confirmed that Garner and Greer are reprising their original roles, and the plot details are still scarce. It is unclear whether the pair will serve as mentors, older versions of their characters, or something else entirely. What is certain is that the production has managed to reunite two main stars from a film that got $96 million worldwide and became a cultural touchstone for millennial audiences.
The 13 Going on 30 reboot stars Bader as the lead, with Logan Lerman in a central role. Brett Haley, fresh off directing Netflix’s hit adaptation of People We Met on Vacation, is helming the project. The ensemble cast also includes Taylor Zakhar Perez, Jessica Alba, Adeline Rudolph, Taylor Ortega, Tim Meadows, and Dan Bucatinsky.
Garner explained earlier this year why she finally agreed to a reboot after decades of hesitation. “It’s the first of many, many times that someone has brought [a reboot] up to me, so it started to feel like — I don’t want it to happen without me participating,” she told Variety. The script and Bader’s casting sealed the deal. “I want to watch her do it. Why can’t magic strike twice?” Garner said.
