The Penguin’s Cristin Milioti Faces a Psychopathic Unicorn in Buddy Teaser Trailer

Roadside Attractions has shared the teaser trailer for Buddy starring Cristin Milioti. The upcoming horror thriller about a psychopathic humanoid unicorn is scheduled to arrive in theaters on August 28, 2026.

“Remember Buddy — the bright orange unicorn and star of that classic children’s television show who brought joy and life lessons into your living room? Inside the colorful world of ‘It’s Buddy!’, a group of children spends their days singing, dancing, and helping Buddy spread happiness. But when one child refuses to play along, Buddy is not pleased, and cracks begin to appear in this seemingly perfect world,” reads the official synopsis.

What happens in the Buddy teaser trailer?

The video shows a seemingly normal children’s show featuring an orange-colored unicorn and a pink-colored bunny. However, the teaser soon turns eerie when the kids start getting afraid of the titular unicorn. It also offers a glimpse of Milioti’s character, Grace. So far, the movie has already received an 84% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 31 reviews.

Buddy is directed by Casper Kelly, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Jamie King. The movie stars Cristin Milioti as Grace, Keegan-Michael Key as Buddy the Unicorn, Delaney Quinn as Freddy, Topher Grace as Ben, Michael Shannon as Charlie the Train & Willie, Patton Oswalt as Strappy, and more. Before its theatrical debut, the movie had its world premiere at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival.

The horror movie is produced by Tyler Davidson, Drew Sykes, Raphael Margules, J.D. Lifshitz, and Tracy Rosenblum. Executive producers are Kevin Flanigan, Dexter Braff, Roberto Linck, Nathan McAuley, Emilio Schenker, Gideon Tadmor, Adam J. Wilde, Geoff Yaw, and Ryan J. Kelly. It has a total runtime of 95 minutes.
