Robert Downey Jr. and Tom Cruise’s R-rated comedy is set to land on the streaming platform very soon.
According to TV Guide, Tropic Thunder will be available in Prime Video’s content library, beginning July 1, 2026.
Directed by Ben Stiller, the film was released in the United States on August 13, 2008. The story follows Tugg Speedman, Kirk Lazarus, Jeff Portnoy, and their fellow actors as they travel to Southeast Asia. There, they plan to film a big-budget adaptation of Vietnam War veteran Four Leaf Tayback’s memoir. During production, the cast is placed in the middle of the jungle with only a map and prop weapons.
Believing they are surrounded by staged explosions and combat, the actors soon discover they have unknowingly entered the territory of the Flaming Dragons, a dangerous drug gang. Their situation becomes even more dangerous after Tugg is captured, forcing the remaining actors to confront a real-life conflict. Forced to rely on one another, the unlikely team must navigate the hostile jungle, rescue their co-star, and survive the hostile environment.
Tropic Thunder features Ben Stiller as Tugg Speedman, Robert Downey Jr. as Kirk Lazarus, Jack Black as Jeff Portnoy, Nick Nolte as Four Leaf Tayback, Steve Coogan as Damien Cockburn, and Tom Cruise as Les Grossman, among others.
Upon release, the film received a generally positive response. On Rotten Tomatoes, it holds an 82% critics’ score based on 249 reviews. Meanwhile, audiences have given Tropic Thunder a 71% rating on the Popcornmeter.
