Hammer’s latest film, Citizen Vigilante, was released just over a week ago in select theaters and digital platforms. However, director Uwe Boll has decided to upload the entire movie for free. Those who want to catch the film can watch it on the film’s official X profile, but it will only be available online until 10 a.m EST on June 27, 2026.
The social media post announcing the digital release reads, “The movie Hollywood doesn’t want you to see. Uwe Boll’s #CitizenVigilante. Available to watch until 10:00 am est on June 27.”
It’s unclear why the post says the movie is something “Hollywood” wants to hide when the film was, in fact, effectively banned in Germany. It was distributed by Quiver Distribution and was reposted in its entirety by Elon Musk as well. The tech mogul shared some key statistics regarding the film’s performance on X, writing, “8M views already from my feed and 5M views directly by morning.”
Filmed under the working title “Dark Knight”, the movie changed its title to Citizen Vigilante before its release. It stars Armie Hammer and Costas Mandylor. The film’s synopsis reads, “Citizen Vigilante’s story is Sanders (Hammer), a wealthy American businessman living in Zagreb who inherited a massive real estate empire from his late father. Intelligent, isolated and emotionally scarred, Sanders transforms himself into a feared underground vigilante targeting violent criminals, rapists and corrupt judges who escaped meaningful punishment through the legal system.”
Following the film’s release, Uwe Boll has stated that he would like to work with actors who left the limelight after controversies, including Kevin Spacey. Following the film’s release, Boll has also blasted Hollywood, claiming that most of the industry dislikes Donald Trump despite publicly engaging with the President.
During an interview with ComingSoon, Hammer also touched on the topic of missing out on acting in Aaron Sorkin’s upcoming The Social Reckoning. Hammer previously played the Winklevoss twins in The Social Network.
Citizen Vigilante was released in the United States on June 19, 2026.
